The "CLOCK REPAIR PRIMER" is one of the first books I read while learning to repair clocks.  It goes hand in hand with it's sister book, "THE CLOCK REPAIR FIRST READER".  These books supplied me with enough information and after a bit of practice, I was able to repair the old mechanical movements of some old clocks for paying customers.  The main phrase here is "Paying Customers".  Did you catch that?

Now, as I sit there in my shop, I can look over at the shelves and see several clocks waiting for me to work on them.  Can you believe it?  A waiting list and more on the way in.

At this point, you might be saying "so what?"- any clock repairman worth his 10x eye loupe has built a waiting list over the years.  Well, you're right.  However, I couldn't even spell tick-tock 6 months ago and now I'm getting paid to fix them.

The information gained and the lessons I learned from these books by Philip E. Balcomb, I consider to be extremely valuable and a giant step forward toward the building of my Clock Repair Business.  It's a tough life, but someone has to live it.  I just love this stuff.

    Happy tick-tocks,

    Jake Howard

  • Time for enlightenment

Our store had its beginning from the need to have a sales outlet for our restored antique clocks.  Then we decided that we could also add antique lamps to the mix.  Since restoration of antiques take time, we saw that the store shelves might look a bit bare from time to time so we started to add accessories, then tools, then shop and hobby supplies, then technique and DIY E-Books and then recently reference books in the same arena as the original items we wanted to sell in the beginning.  It appears we have come full circle.

The most difficult part about this E-Store business has nothing to do with the problems we thought we would face in the beginning.  Like how does one build a web page, how do we get it on the web, what is it going to cost us, etc., etc.

Due to the new programs available - many being free - and the services provided by different hosting sites like Auctiva, building and setting up the web page was a breeze.  The hard part came when we tried to find the right products at the right prices.  The competition out here on the Internet is fierce at best.  Everybody and his brother - or so it seems, is out here web hawking for customers.  Marketing techniques have their own twist.  Practically anything on the planet can be bought or sold with a "click" of the mouse.  New ways of attracting customers spring up every second.  One minute your store may be completely stocked with all of the virtual shelves packed full and by the next sunrise, you wake up to an empty store - where even the shelves are gone if they were put up for bids.  It's a fast paced, problem solving, attention getting, capitalistic, Murphy's Law type of environment and we are having a BLAST.  The secret is finding the right product, at the right time, at the right price and be second to no one in customer service.  Piece of Cake.

We are baking the cake right now and will have the store stocked up as soon as we can.  Drop by and visit from time to time.  If you can't find what you're looking for, just drop us a line and describe it as best as you can and we'll do our best to find it for you at a price you will love.

Y'all come back now, ya hear?    Thanks,, Eveann
